The Los Angeles Council of Charitable Gift Planners holds four General Meetings each year. Our General Meetings are like attending a half-day conference on gift planning. Attendees benefit from hearing two different presentations at either the beginner or advanced level. Come learn the latest concepts and techniques to help your donors or clients make planned gifts that meet their financial and philanthropic goals. Sessions may include facilitated breakouts so you can engage with your fellow attendees.

Joining the Blockchain: How to Think About Potential Gifts of Cryptocurrency and NFTs

Cryptocurrency and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) are new and significant asset classes that have emerged over the past several years. Regardless of whether you view them as a fad or a permanent part of our economy, donating these assets can carry significant tax benefits, which means that organizations need to understand them and whether and how they should accept them.

This presentation will cover the basics of what they are and how the key concepts of gift planning apply to them (e.g. deductions, appraisals, timing, agreements, managing risk) so that your organization can benefit from the public fascination with cryptocurrency and NFTs.

Karl Mill graduated from Columbia Law School in 2013 and practiced trust, estate, and tax law for several years at DLA Piper. Prior to founding Mill Law Center, Karl Mill was a partner at Adler & Colvin, a boutique law firm serving non-profits and their donors. Karl continues to advise a broad range of non-profit organizations, including everything from the most innovative start-ups to some of the largest, most established foundations and charities around the country. Karl’s philosophy is to apply his years as a lawyer and educator to provide clear, actionable legal advice and support to non-profits. Karl’s areas of expertise include private foundations, public charities, impact investment, social enterprise, and charitable gift planning. 


Advanced Case Study

Do SB 8, SB 9, and SB 10 provide new opportunities with our clients and donors? A case study exploring gifting opportunities using vacant land. 

In September 2021, Governor Newsom signed legislation to streamline the process for cities to zone for multi-family housing and increased residential density. Now, land that may have previously been viewed as essentially unusable has potential. In this donor case study, we will explore how we can help donors and clients develop a plan with charitable components when the value of the assets is potentially $45 million and the basis is nothing.

Patience Boudreaux is the Director of Planned Giving at Loma Linda University Health where she leads a team focused on deferred and current gifts, usually involving complex assets. She's spent 17 years in fundraising roles ranging from annual to major to planned giving. Prior to Loma Linda, her career has been focused on higher education, particularly private liberal arts institutions. Patience earned her BA at Johns Hopkins University, her MBA from the Drucker School at Claremont Graduate University, and is a certified specialist in planned giving and a certified fundraising executive.

How to talk to your donors - and internal leadership - about real estate gifts

Moderated by Vince Fraumeni

Real estate gifts are transformative for organizations, but how do we get donors and our leadership on board with these gifts that are more complicated, involve more risk, and require multiple parties to be involved. In this session, we'll discuss road blocks attendees have faced and work through pitches to help make the case for these tax-smart gifts.

Cancellation Policy
LACGP regrets that refunds will not be given for no-shows. A refund of full registration is permitted prior to an event by submitting a written request to [email protected].

LACGP reserves the right to change speakers and/or cancel an event due to unforeseen circumstances without penalty. The total amount of any liability of LACGP will be limited to a refund of the attendee’s registration fee.

LACGP will provide attendee contact information and email addresses to program partners and exhibitors of certain LACGP events. The information provided to program partners and exhibitors will only be used to inform the attendee of promotions and networking opportunities with the program partners and exhibitors at the event. Attendee information is never given to any other parties. LACGP does not sell attendee information. For those LACGP events with program partners/exhibitors, you will have the option during registration to choose whether you wish to receive notifications and opportunities from the program partners/exhibitors via email or mail.

Continuing Education
The Los Angeles Council of Charitable Gift Planners is approved as continuing education provider #3889 of MCLE credit by the State Bar of California and designated this activity for a maximum of 2.0 hours of credit. LACGP is also an approved for CFRE continuing education credits for Fund Raising Executives. An application for continuing education credits for CFP® is submitted when the course content is within the CFP® Board guidelines.

Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits for CPAs through the California Board of Accountancy are self-reported and it is the obligation of each licensee to select a course of study consistent with CBA requirements.

Certified Specialist in Planned Giving (CSPG) continuing education credits for Planned Giving are self-reported and the appropriate attendance certificate will be provided after the event.
