PG 201

May 1, 2023 | 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM
University Club of Pasadena

Have you been involved in Planned Giving for a while? Do you want to go deeper and understand the tax aspects of Charitable Planned Giving so you can educate your donors on how taxes influence the type of planned gift vehicles they should consider? Are you ready to “think outside the box” and prepared to talk about multiple planned giving strategies to more closely meet your donor’s objectives as well as the nonprofit you represent?

Then this “Planned Giving 201” class is designed for you!

Cost: $99 (includes lunch)

This class will provide you with a foundation of the various tax regimes that impact charitable giving.  Having a basic understanding of the tax system does not mean becoming an accountant or tax lawyer but by knowing “just enough” you will be more confident in designing a plan for and with your donor and their advisors to produce a tax effective gift strategy that maximizes the tax benefits as well as the financial and charitable benefits they desire.

Along the way, you will participate in role play where you and your fellow participants will work together to understand the objectives of your fictional donors and discuss the various types of planned gifts that could be designed for such donors.

This is a journey exploring all types of gift structures from the simplest outright present gifts (e.g., bargain sales, non-trust gifts, etc.,) to deferred methods (e.g., wills, charitable trusts, charitable gift annuities, and retained life estates in a residence or farm, charitable lead trusts, etc.).  Ultimately, the course focuses on interpreting the data gathered and the introduction of those charitable gift strategies which may complement the client's overall objectives.

Your instructors are Claudia Sangster and Steve Chidester, veterans in the world of planned giving and longtime supporters of the LACCGP Planned Giving 101 course.
