JANUARY GENERAL MEETING
January 19, 2022
In-Person at the University Club of Pasadena 8:30 AM - 11:15 AM The Los Angeles Council of Charitable Gift Planners holds four General Meetings each year. Our General Meetings are like attending a half-day conference on gift planning. Attendees benefit from hearing two different presentations at either the beginner or advanced level. Come learn the latest concepts and techniques to help your donors or clients make planned gifts that meet their financial and philanthropic goals. Sessions may include facilitated breakouts so you can engage with your fellow attendees. Consider having lunch with your LACGP colleagues at one of these restaurants near the University Club. Members: $75 | Non-Members: $90 MEMBERS - Register up to THREE guests to accompany you for an additional $25 each! Pre-arranged Sales - When is "Late" Really "Too Late"? The planner who has never come across an article or a seminar warning about the pre-arranged sale rules, or worse, got their information online from a Google search that provided incorrect information, may not even know the rules were breached until an audit letter arrives from the IRS. Obviously, the financial pain experienced by the donor then reverberates back to the planner who structured or approved the deal (that means you and your organization). The IRS has been litigating these cases since 1930. It is an issue that won’t go away any time soon. You may as well master it. After several years of practicing law in litigation and appeals, and community advocacy as director of a nonprofit, in 2006, Amina Saeed opened her estate planning law firm in North Aurora, Illinois. Today, the firm has grown to include an office in Naperville, and she serves individual clients and nonprofit organizations throughout the United States. Amina provides practical and creative estate planning, representing many high-net-worth clients, asset protection solutions using complex business structures for the challenges faced by her clients, and innovative charitable solutions for both tax planning and philanthropy goals. Although Amina spends most of her hours at her office, she loves outdoor adventures. She's been chased by a buffalo at Custer State Park, found herself on the same path as a bear when hiking in Canada while five months pregnant, enjoyed ice fishing on Lake Superior, and just a couple weeks ago, braved the high heat warnings to trek down deep into the Grand Canyon. She's always up for a memorable National Park adventure so if you have a recommendation, she would love to hear it. Trends and Updates Planned Giving Professionals Should Consider as We Enter 2023 This presentation will focus on the current legislative and economic landscape as it pertains to the philanthropic world and the professionals who serve it. We'll examine changes in legislation and how donors and organizations can plan. We'll discuss the challenges of the current economic and capital markets environment. We'll also discuss on the mindset of donors and wealthy families right now in light of the legislative and economic conditions. Amy Takeuchi Wanlass is a Wealth Advisor at Northern Trust in Pasadena.
